The second leg of our trip along the coast… some of the in between places.. Where we found hidden coves and beautiful Scenery in every direction.
This is the courtyard to the Hotel we spent our first night at in Carmel by the Sea. The place was a quaint little place at the top of the hill called the Wayfarer inn. It was suitable and cozy. But try to get coffee there… FORGET IT…

Just around the corner was the Fire Department where I took a walk over to take a few pictures.. Unfortunately no one was there to see inside..
Next we headed into Big Sur
From the beach to the forest in just a few miles.
A little place we stopped off to have a smoke and take in the beauty of the Sapphire Ocean..
Arriving at Big Sur, we had Iced teas at this fabulous restaurant that sat on the side of the mountain looking out over the Ocean. http://www.nepenthebigsur.com/ It was quite the hike up the hill (walkways) through beautiful flower and decorative art Sculptures making the walk amazing.
I found this Phone in the middle of the walk way up to the restaurant unique and almost out of place considering the sculptures were of Indian craft… but hey whatever sells your product works I imagine.
This was a concrete stadium seating area Surrounded by flowers and smells that were heavenly and this was the view..
After a delicious Iced tea we were back on the road again.
Our next stop was in the park, where we hiked down a hill (a path) following these handsome German/Danish boys through this tunnel and around a few bends to such a breath taking view of the coast line.
so worth the walk in the woods a few small annoying bugs buzzing around..
Just an idea to show you where our coast trip lead us. Next we went to see
http://www.contemplation.com/ and visited the New Camaldoli Hermitage. Interesting place surrounded in beautiful scenery. They are a full retreat center and offer camping areas along the side of the mountain with views of the ocean that are fantastic.
As we turned one bend almost to the visitor center for the hermitage there on the edge of the mountain facing the sea was the most tranquil bench, Placed perfectly..like it was waiting for me..
After leaving there, This is when I found Esalen… Dawn had been there before on a retreat and the place was amazing. Quiet peacefully beauty placed right in between the mountains and the ocean. But I believe Esalen deserves to be blogged alone… so moving forward, We are moving into the San Simeon area.. And the Hearst Castle Which I believe also gets a blog alone… Here is where we start driving down some beach..
Next we came to Ragged Point. The coast was superb here. water gorgeous, the sun gorgeous and
The company perfect and both gorgeous I might add…Here at Ragged Point people gathered to watch the Sea Elephants coming to the beach to rest.. a few then hoards of them.. I caught some little ones playing in the water and making sounds.. Some Ginormous ones barking at smaller one to get out of there space… They laid on the beach as the sun was starting to set. Throwing sand over their backs to cool themselves. A busy view point too so we watched a bit then moved on to get to Pismo in time for the sunset and first check in to our room.
This group of Bikers were from Switzerland biking the coast on vacation. we later have a drink at the same place they were. a rather happy giggling group… but quite cordial..

This Indian was driven by one of the women from Switzerland.. and a rather fine scooter as well.
Poor Bastard was broke down on the side of the road..I got the picture and missed the best one of the cowboy who came walking out playing guitar awaiting road service I guess.

We checked in to our room which is a stones throw from Hearst Castle where tomorrow will lead us. But for tonight we will go to Pismo Drive onto the beach and watch the sun set, Have Dinner in Cambria and Head to the castle in the morning..

The Morgan was a great hotel convenient to everything and clean…
After a bite to eat quick in Cambria. We made our way down to Avila beach. a beautiful little town that was to me as Italy on the coast would be…

Making our way to Morro Bay

In this cove 2 weeks prior there was a woman attacked on a surf board heading out to surf by a pretty nice sized shark. The surf board wasn’t salvageable but the woman was spared..
In a few gift shops we found Taffy to fill your hearts desire… any flavor you could imagine.. Even Maple bacon which was nasty BTW… It seems every where I went everyone was GETTING BUSY.. even the turtles in the gift shops…SHEESH..
In another shop there was some amazing Driftwood carvings and spectacular art.. This particular bowl stuck out to me as amazing…
Clouds feathered the sky and although the sun was shining the air got quite chilly… Nonetheless it was beautiful..
Just a beautiful home leaving Morro bay….

Next we found this cute place called Moonstone Beach. Just the name called us in.. So we needed to find out what this moonstone was all about. Nestled at one corner entering the Beach side community was this beautiful Driftwood art gallery. Of course it was closed… But the art stood boldly in front. Giant pieces that would take three men and a truck to move not to mention a crane..
This giant driftwood piece was smooth like silk
Art in the making.

It had multiple colors throughout it’s smooth texture.
This next piece resembled an Elephant with his trunk pointing towards the sky
Chairs were assembled from other pieces.
This piece was like a little aborigine warrior .
Followed by a Trojan horse of sorts. Or possibly a trojan bull maybe???
This beautiful bench was cozy..
This next one resembled a Giant Whale with his tail fin in the air.
I particularly liked this bench made of driftwood Manzanita branches and I especially loved the view..
This next piece actually had a name on it.. it was called WILD HORSES. and it did look like horses again holding their heads high into the sky.
The next is a huge elephant with trunk held high
This is on the one side of the giant piece at the beginning. I thought it was cool that it had marking suck as wormwood. almost like hieroglyphs. But all natural marking from being in the water.
A few Mushrooms and finally “MOONSTONES!! They were laying on a cute little table.. I have no idea what they do or whether the represent something special…
-
a pearly white semiprecious stone consisting of alkali feldspar.
But nonetheless again a worthy stop in our travels..
Finally our trip is near the end of another day and we have made it to Pismo beach to watch the sunset..

After some sand art we took a walk up the beach.
When we arrived their were some guys windsurfing and pretty much at the end of their day. I did manage to catch a few shots of one coming out of the water..

Breaking down their Kites..
There’s something about a man in Uniform but something more when he is wearing a wetsuit!!!
Just some things I collected on the beach and some small beach creatures as well From Kelp to Sand Dollars to this one little clam shell that was gorgeous inside
This Sea Gull was following me.. I wonder if maybe it had something to do with my smoke??
Back at the car after a nice relaxing beach walk..
By Golly I had my fricken toes in the sand
When finally reviewing my picture once back at the house. I discovered this picture.. so much energy I picked up red lines in the water. Can someone explain??? Look closely at the one wave directly under the sun where the sun beam meets the wave..
The waves started hitting hard against the beach as the sun finally fizzled out on the horizon.. Tomorrow we go to Hearst Castle..

Surprisingly there was water in many of the creeks and streams despite the drought.
You could actually see water spewing at the top but the lack of rain wasn’t allowing anything much to flow over the edge.

This was taken on the patio they seemed to be swarming over me as they may have felt threatened by my presence..
